What Is DataShuttle?

DataShuttle is a website migration service created by the developers of ServerPilot.

At ServerPilot, we saw the need for a simple, secure, reliable tool to help developers and website owners clone and migrate sites for many different reasons, including:

moving from shared hosting to a cloud provider,
moving sites to a different server such as when launching a development site to production,
cloning a site to test out code changes, or
cloning a site to quickly launch a customized WordPress site.

Depending on the site, there are often changes DataShuttle can't make to get your migrated or cloned site ready exactly as you need it. But DataShuttle can do much of the heavy lifting, including:

copying files to a new directory or server,
exporting MySQL database contents and importing them into a new database, and
changing WordPress database credentials in wp-config.php.

We don't currently have any plans to charge for DataShuttle, especially for individuals and agencies doing relatively small numbers of migrations of reasonably sized sites. However, there are hosting companies with large numbers of sites and businesses whose sites have huge media files and databases. We want to help these groups with migrations, too, but we may not always be able to do that for free.
